Jars to be part of Music Builds Tour

Switchfoot announced it's 23-show Festival-style concert tour spanning three months in late 2008. Rock bands that are gonna be part of the tour include Switchfoot, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Third Day and of course, Jars of Clay.
The tour will benefit Habitat for Humanity's home building in many ways, as in collectively donating $1 to Habitat for Humanity for each ticket sold during the tour. Also, funds raised from ticket auctions, special merchandise items and event packages will be designated to fund Habitat for Humanity in each tour city.
The tour will start on August 21st in Detroit, MI and conclude in Denver, CO on October 12th. Pre-sale of ticket will be distribuited by Live Nation and and Transparent Production, starting on May 9th. Jars' link to buy tickets is here. Official site. More info here.

New Record in 2009
Despite early hints from Dan that we could expect a new Jars of Clay album this year, a recent myspace bulletin post from Charlie reveals a new release date, among other details. Here's the important information:

We are thrilled to be heading back into rehearsals this week with a longtime friend and collaborator, Ron Aniello. He helped out a lot on Who We Are Instead, as well as Good Monsters...He'll be with us for a few weeks, starting with rehearsals - what we call "pre-production" in the business...We'll be recording back at Sputnik Sound again..Mitch Dane is our engineer and partner there, a great friend and wonderful producer in his own right.

It'll be great to have the team back together, including Jeremy and Gabe, our incredible rhythm
section...

It will be an exciting year for us - look for a release in early '09. We will be out on the road quite a bit later this year, so don't be misled by our quiet Spring.

Greatest Hits Received With Little Fanfare
Christian Music Today recently posted their review of the Greatest Hits album. Although Love Is The Protest gets the thumbs up, they're not impressed with the album as a whole. However, the disappointment seems to be more with Essential Records than the band:

If you absolutely need an official compilation, get The Essential Jars of Clay. Otherwise, skip this one, because if Essential isn't going to invest in a comprehensive best-of for Jars of Clay, then why should you?

Note from Steve Re: Greatest Hits
In case any fans are visiting this site out of curiosity over the band's current state because of the Greatest Hits CD, read these words Steve wrote for the band's latest bulletin post on myspace:

...We’ve tried to get the highlights – the songs you’d hear on the radio, and most importantly…include a newly recorded song! We wrote “Love Is A Protest” as a hopeful signpost in our musical journey. That’s what we want to continue to be about in all that we do.

Now, it should be noted that these albums are typically released at the end of a recording career. This is certainly not the case! We’re headed into the studio in April/May of this year to begin a new full length album. Stay tuned for more fun...
